US Grade 7 - 10
Whether your learner thinks of a scientist as someone who is limited to working in a lab or you have a fascinated explorer who is already hooked on the concept of working in a science field, this is the course for them to explore the many possibilities of what 'being a scientist' can mean! In this course, learners will investigate a variety of exciting and unique career possibilities in the sciences and what they entail. We will talk about different careers (not limited to these) involving topics such as animals, the ocean, medicine, sports, severe weather, and even roller coasters, to name a few! The careers will be categorized into more general areas of study as well, so students can get a feel for what type of science background they can pursue to obtain a job in these fields. Students will learn about these intriguing careers through active discussions, engaging activities, and short video clips, along with a foundation of information on slides that I provide.

Teacher expertise and credentials
As a career scientist, I have had a variety of experiences involving the sciences. I have a bachelor's degree in environmental science as well as a master's degree in biological oceanography. For four years I was an environmental chemist in a laboratory setting, and for two years I completed field research on the coastal waters along the eastern shore of the United States. I also have experience working with news station meteorologists and water treatment facilities. I have spent the past ten years teaching and designing courses in the sciences to students of all ages in a variety of different settings. These settings range from outdoor education programs, interactive science museums, and formal classrooms.
