Class Experience

If your child is a dessert lover who is learning Spanish, then this is the perfect cooking class! The goals of this one-time, beginner level Spanish mug baking class are for students to improve Spanish vocabulary and conversation skills, learn new cooking techniques, gain independence in the kitchen, and prepare an easy, delicious dessert.

Students can look forward to learning new cooking related vocabulary, techniques, and tips through an interactive, visual approach in Spanish and English. To begin, they will be introduced to the recipe and relevant cooking vocabulary through a Powerpoint and engaging activity. They will be presented with alternative ingredients for the recipe based on allergies and taste preferences, which will give students some autonomy to customize their desserts. Next, they will go to their kitchens and work together to follow a simple recipe, step-by-step, and even practice their math conversion skills (measurement, time, temperature) along the way! Finally, students will take a bite of their homemade dessert while reviewing all that they learned throughout class, and chatting with their new friends.

Students do not need to have any previous Spanish knowledge. All ingredients and supplies that are needed for this class are included in the 'Learner Supply List' below. Alternative ingredients are listed for all gluten and dairy allergies. Adult supervision is required during this class because students will be using a heat source (microwave). After class, the teacher will upload a recipe card to the classroom that learners can download and print.
