Cooking & Baking with DeAnn: Homemade Candy-Fudge, Caramel, Popcorn (14-18)
What's included
Homework
1-2 hours per week. Our class has the best kind of homework...make the candies and goodies and then enjoy them! :)Class Experience
** THIS IS A FLEX CLASS AND DOES NOT HAVE LIVE MEETINGS ** Students will learn how to make a variety of delicious treats, candies, or goodies throughout this class. We will make a new recipe each week. Learners will build their recipe files, share ideas, and feel confident in what they have made. These treats are perfect for gatherings or celebrations with friends and family. Class Schedule: Week 1 - Homemade Caramels Week 2 - Toffee Week 3 - Symphony Fudge Week 4 - Cinnamon Roll Popcorn Week 5 - Pinwheel Caramels Week 6 - Cookies 'N Cream Fudge Week 7 - Oreo Truffle Balls (Optional: Try making them minty - Mint Truffle Balls) Videos for each step of the recipes will be shown to help learners easily follow along while making their treats and goodies. A list of ingredients and supplies will be posted on Wednesday mornings (if your class starts on Saturday) or on Friday mornings (if your class starts on Monday) before class each week. A full recipe with step-by-step video instruction will be posted each Saturday/Monday morning in preparation for the new week. Learners can begin making their delicious goodies at a time that will best fit their schedules. I will be available throughout the 7-week class for questions and comments and will do my best to respond quickly. A flex class is fun and convenient because learners can make these treats on their own time, as well as interact with other students in the class. Each week I want the learners to think about the recipe and the ingredients we are using. Why are these ingredients an essential part of that particular recipe? What ingredients could you add to change the recipe? I will ask questions about the treats and candies, recipes, or candy-making process at the end of each week. Students should be prepared to share successes, as well things that might have been a struggle as they learned something new. Students will also be asked to share a photo with the class of at least 3 of their treats. My class is a safe place to learn, grow, make mistakes, laugh together, feel confident, and find new ways to be successful. I want everyone to feel safe and happy while creating in the kitchen. Come make delicious cookies and brownies with me!
Learning Goals
Students will:
• Learn to make a variety of treats and candies.

Other Details
Parental Guidance
Parents - please be advised that we will be using the stove to make most of our candies and goodies, and cooking candy at high temperatures. We will also need to use the oven when we make the popcorn. We may also need to use a knife to cut butter or other ingredients, as well as the microwave to soften or melt ingredients. Parental supervision is strongly encouraged.
Please check ingredients for possible allergies and be aware that some of these recipes use nuts, gluten, chocolate and milk products. If you have an allergy concern, please message me regarding possible ingredients that may be a concern for your learner.
Supply List
Supplies and ingredients will vary for each class. A supply/ingredient list with pictures (for those who like to have a visual picture of what we need) will be posted 3 days before class begins each week. The full recipe and instructional videos will be posted to the classroom page every Saturday/Monday (depending on the start day of your class), so learners can gather the necessary supplies and have them ready when they want to make the treats and candies. Some typical supplies used in most classes include: Candy thermometer - required in order to cook the caramel and toffee just right A rubber spatula Medium/large saucepan Measuring cups and spoons Wooden spoon Knife Medium-large mixing bowls Cookie/baking sheets Parchment paper Non-stick cooking spray
