Each week a question will be posted for the student to research. They will need a notebook to write down their recipes.Class Experience
American cuisine is described as a melting pot of cultures. As a country, the United States' land, and people are quite diverse. Each week we will replicate an American region’s cuisine as authentically as possible. Students will also discover different cooking styles and basics such as how to make a roux and how to long to cook it for gumbo versus a cream gravy. We will talk about the land and describe what grew there and where many people immigrated from as we cook a dish from that region. Some recipes will require the student to make part of the recipe ahead of time. The goal of this class is to add to their knowledge of the cuisines of America and how diverse America is region by region. By the end of class, they will have mastered 4 recipes! Week 1: New England: New England Clam Chowder Week 2: The South: Jambalya Week 3: Pacific Northwest: Fish Tacos Week 4: SouthWest: Tamale Pie
