Class Experience

In this on-going conversational Cantonese club that meets 3 times a week, students will be speaking to each other and the teacher in Cantonese. It will be a social, interactive class for students to make friends with other Cantonese-speaking students who would like a venue to practice and improve communicating in Cantonese. We will focus on a different topic through discussions each week such as:

Topics that will be covered but not limited to this list are:
Greetings, days of the week, months, color, numbers, animals, feelings, and more.

The teacher will be speaking both Cantonese and English. It will be a fun, interactive class where students can ask questions. This class will be focused on speaking and hearing the language. No reading or written format will be used. There will be short Cantonese videos used to help emphasize the use of essential Cantonese words. Also, students will learn Cantonese through stories and songs.

These are 45-minutes sessions with about 10 minutes set aside to "talk story." Most kids want to talk about life, friends, pets, games. So this time is set aside for them to do that. This way, I don't have to rush into the lesson. We will have time to visit for a while.

External teaching tools that I may use will include:
Youtube
Baamboozle
Educandy

Regular attendance is encouraged to obtain maximum exposure to the language. (Practice makes perfect !)

Profile
Teacher expertise and credentials
I teach Conversation Cantonese, basic math and language arts to Kindergarteners and life skill classes to older elementary-age kids. My professonal background is in Social Work and I am currently in my last year of schooling to become a certified Special Ed Teacher. I have worked as an emergency-hired Special Ed teacher in an elementary school for one year. I have worked as a substitute teacher for the elementary schools for two years. So in total, I have 3 years experience working with elementary school students.

My philosophy behind teaching is that anyone can learn no matter what level they are at. And students learn best when class is interactive and fun. Thus, occasionally, I will use humor in class.

Something fun and personal about me is that I have a cat named "Baby."
