Class Experience

US Grade 8 - 11
In this ongoing 4-week group course, students will engage in conversation with one another and the teacher. I will prepare topics ahead of time for students to discuss during class like things they're grateful for, favorite vacation spots, favorite hobbies, and more! Students will have plenty of opportunities to participate in the games and discussions. The purpose of this class is to provide students with a chance to practice their conversation and listening skills. Students will be encouraged to participate in discussions. At the end of each class, we will play a game!

Important to note: if only 1 learner enrolls, I will still teach the class. The conversation in this case will occur between teacher and student.

My teaching style is fun and organized in that I like to keep structure in my classes while engaging students in a fun manner. The basic structure will be sharing something fun they did that week when we start class, participating in a discussion, and playing a game to promote conversation. I look forward to meeting your student!

Here is the breakdown of the schedule:
Week 1, Class 1: Introductions, class rules/expectations. Students take turns sharing 3 favorite hobbies. Then, we will play a "Would You Rather" game where students are given 2 hypothetical options (sometimes hilarious options) of which they have to choose one they would rather do (i.e., "eat ice cream that tastes like broccoli or eat broccoli that tastes like ice cream"). We may also play a Baamboozle game (baamboozle.com/games) that promotes conversation!

Week 1, Class 2: students share 3 favorite games and why. Would You Rather games or Conversation game as explained in Week 1, Class 1.

Week 2, Class 1: students share their 3 favorite movies/TV Shows. Would You Rather games or Conversation game as explained in Week 1, Class 1.

Week 2, Class 2: students discuss their 3 favorite animals and why. Would You Rather games or Conversation game as explained in Week 1, Class 1.

Week 3, Class 1: students discuss their 3 favorite vacation spots and why. Would You Rather games or Conversation game as explained in Week 1, Class 1.

Week 3, Class 2: students discuss 3 things they like about themselves. Would You Rather games or Conversation game as explained in Week 1, Class 1.

Week 4, Class 1: students discuss 3 jobs they’d like to have. Would You Rather games or Conversation game as explained in Week 1, Class 1.

Week 4, Class 2: students discuss 3 wishes they have for their future. Would You Rather games or Conversation game as explained in Week 1, Class 1.

I am an elementary school counselor with 18 years of experience. I also teach on other online platforms - VIPKID, Cambly, and Zebra English. During my school counseling career, I've taught many topics in classrooms including self-esteem, coping skills, anger management, social skills, and more. I've also had the pleasure of running clubs based on topics of dinosaurs, unicorns, math, writing, and much more! Being able to share my interests with my students is a luxury!

In Outschool, some of the classes I plan on teaching will include topics on dinosaurs, unicorns, self-esteem, mindfulness, relaxation, coping skills, anger management, social skills, K-2nd grade math, and writing. I truly enjoy teaching these topics and look forward to working with your student!

My teaching style is interactive and learner-focused. I often use power points, stories I've written, discussions, and games in my lessons! I believe that teaching should not only help students learn about the topic being taught but that it should also be engaging and fun!

In my free time, I enjoy hiking, reading, playing with my son and our dog, exercising, and traveling. I believe life is meant to be lived and enjoyed to the fullest!
