Description

Class Experience

I am excited to help my students reach their reading potential!
Students will be improving their reading comprehension by applying proven strategies to class middle grade short stories.  For eight weeks, I will teach students practical skills that will enhance their understanding immediately by connecting them to meaningful texts. 
 Each class will have a warm-up activity, a presentation of practical skills, and a reading application.  
Reading Strategies: questioning, analyzing text structure, visualization, summaries.

Week 2-  “Lob's Girl" by Joan Aiken
Week 3-  "Ghost of the Lagoon" by Armstrong Sperry
Week 4-  “Tuesday of the Other June” by Norma Fox Mazer
Week 5-  "Aaron's Gift" by Myron Levoy
Week 6-  "The Fish Story" by Mary Lou Brooks
Week 7-  "Jeremiah's Song" by Walter Dean Myers
Week 8-  “The School Play" by Gary Soto
I am an Orton Gillingham certified instructor with an MA in Special Education.  I have worked with striving readers in the classroom and in my private practice for over 15 years.  I love that I get to help people develop a lifelong love of reading and newfound confidence in themselves.  I believe that everyone can read when they are provided with the right toolkit.  I always make sure that my students feel supported and proud of their abilities.
