Class Experience

US Grade 7 - 9
Welcome! I'm glad you are here. Please read the description carefully so that you may ensure that this class is a good fit for your learner.

This class is an ongoing preparatory course for the High School Entrance Tests for students taking this test at the end of their 8th grade year. This class may be too easy if your learner is taking the upper level test of the SSAT/ISEE as a sophomore or higher.

CLASS STRUCTURE

This class is ongoing. Students can enter and leave at any time. Topics do not build. I encourage all new learners and/or parents to message me with some information/learning goals for the student. I am also happy to send the previous week's homework.

There is an homework assignment scheduled after every class in which I will provide feedback or a key.

During each 55 minute lesson, students will practice a variety of quantitative math skills. All content is directly applicable to these specific tests. Guidelines, tips, and tricks are also covered as well.

MISSED CLASSES
If your student misses a class, a recording will always be accessible on the classroom page. The Google Slides notes are always available as well. The weekly assignments will also be posted for the student.

Note: If your student is not able to attend in person, refunds will not be issued. This is because the student can still access the materials, recording, and receive grades for assignments. If you need to miss a class or several and do not want to be billed, you can pause your subscription.

Topics covered throughout the course:
7th grade or younger concepts featured on the test: time, mean, rates, proportions and ratios, slope, linear equations, rational numbers, perimeter, area, volume, circumference, "percent" problems including discounts/taxes/etc, counting, fractions, decimals (including repeating), geometrically similar object and their scaling, number line including scaling and negative units, absolute value, adding and subtracting involving negative and positives, algebra involving one variable of various sorts, rules and truisms involving intersecting lines, circles/triangles/quadrilaterals/polygons/cubes/right prisms, angles and their sums/interior/exterior/within polygons, parallel lines, population inferences and X-way tables, word problems, multistep solutions, chance and probability including factorials, from lists and data sets, unit conversions, parallelogram, trapezoid, octagon, rectangle, square, order of operations, numeric patterns, prime number, prime factorization, factors, GCF, LCM, mixed fractions, fraction ordering, conversion to/from decimals/fractions
