This one-time class is designed to introduce the concept of compassion to 7-10 year-olds, and in the process help them recognize how to manage their anger by understanding their pain and the pain of others. For the purposes of the class, an act of compassion is defined as: - Doing something that helps someone feel better. So to be truly compassionate, it is important to recognize when someone or something else is hurting. To get started, the teacher will invite the students to tell true (and appropriate) kinds of suffering most of us have experienced. Even a skinned knee story is useful for this purpose. For example: - How did you skin your knee? - How did you feel? - Who helped? - What did they do? - How did that feel? - Have you ever helped someone else who has a skinned knee? - How did that feel? From there, the teacher will ask students to talk about when they've been angry, following a similar instructive approach. ----- A NOTE ABOUT THE COST OF THIS CLASS: I know the price of my classes is higher than many others on Outschool. As an experienced and talented educator, I believe I'm worth this amount and invite you to look at my reviews. That said, I don't want any family to be priced out of what I offer. Whatever your financial situation, if you're interested in one or more of my classes, please reach out and let me know what you can afford. I can provide coupons, refunds, and/or reductions, and am confident we can find an equitable rate that works for you and me.
