US Grade 9 - 12
Instruction is tailored to each individual student on the basis of interests, needs, and aptitude. A few possibilities include: 1. Students learn how to write strong academic essays, starting from basic essay format and moving on to critical thinking and generating original ideas. Grammar review can be included as well. 2. For those applying to college, I can help students develop admissions essays that communicate what is most unique and interesting about them. 3. For students who already love reading literature, we can explore complex and exciting works ranging from The Odyssey of Homer to modern poetry, discovering what makes them great and how to approach them at a college level. 4. For those having difficulty with English classes and reading comprehension, we read engaging stories by writers such as Poe and Bradbury. With some guidance, students become genuinely interested in these works and discover that reading can be a fun and interactive process, much like playing a game.
