This class will give students some background on the Cold War and tell the stories of several famous spies of the era. We will learn about Aldrich Ames, Oleg Gordievsky, Kim Philby and "The Cambridge Five," including some fascinating facts about the kind of intelligence they shared, how they passed on classified information, and how their spying careers came to an end. With Russia dominating the headlines these days, let’s delve into some of the histories that brought us to where we are...
Students will learn some of the background and history of the Cold War and of the lives of several of its most famous spies.
I have taught social studies at the upper elementary level for 20 years and am a life-long lover of history. I lived in Russia for six years and was able to visit many of the locations mentioned in the class. In fact, I will be using some of my own photographs to show what those locations look like today.
This class will contain some content that some students may find upsetting or scary, including escaping a country to keep from being caught, and the existence of atomic bombs. Please be aware of some of this content and determine if this class will be suitable for your child.
