Lesson is aimed for beginners with no experience. Students will learn the basics of programming by creating short projects with Scratch.
Students will learn the following in a series of classes:
- code one or more sprites
- change the look and size of a sprite
- use one or more backdrops
- create your own sprite and/or backdrop
- add speech bubbles to sprite
- add/record sound
- use repeat/forever/if - then controls
- hide and show sprites
- use simple variables
Students will follow along with teacher as we create a new project every day.
Schedule for the week:
Day #1 - Cat Goes to the Moon
Day #2 - Dino Dance Party
Day#3 - Animal Race
Day #4 - Pong Game
Students will need a device for coding. It is beneficial to connect to class using a different device in order to view teacher's screen while coding.

Students will use Scratch in class. Scratch is a free site, but will require a user account to save projects. This is optional.

Hello! My name is Cynthia Burleigh. I live in Texas. I graduated from the University of Texas at Arlington with a Bachelor in Science in Information Systems. I started my career in a banking institute, but quickly realized I wanted to become a teacher. I have been working in education for 15 years, 3 years teaching with Outschool. I am Bilingual Certified - speak English and Spanish and teach Bilingual and ESL students. My teaching experience includes: Robotics, Codings, Spanish, Pre K - 3rd grade Bilingual instruction, Bilingual Reading Specialist, and STEM teacher.
