Do you have a curious learner who is inquisitive about the world around them? This is a fun and interesting course where children will apply their knowledge and learn awesome facts and be part of a discussion about Climate change and the environment. As climate scientists are concerned that our planet is heating up, water shortages, a fossil fuel crisis and habitats and the animals and plants that live there are disappearing - what is the human impact on our planet? This class packed with awesome facts help learners think about the human impact upon our planet and how climate change is affecting the way we live. Week 1 🌎🔥 WHAT IS CLIMATE CHANGE? 🌎🔥 In the first week we will be discussing and learners will be exploring what climate change is. But what is it? Climate change or global warming refers to long-term shifts in temperatures and weather patterns. These shifts may be natural, such as through variations in the solar cycle. But since the 1800s, human impact and activities have been the main driver of climate change, primarily due to burning fossil fuels like coal, oil and gas. Climate change fact: Did you know that climate change could be irreversible after 2030? This summer London, UK experienced record breaking temperatures and people were left sweltering in the heat. The U.K. is not used to such scorching conditions, many houses are designed to keep heat in and air conditioning is not commonplace - could this be down to our changing weather patterns? Week 1 - Climate Change - heatwaves - world temperatures - habitats - water shortages - what is causing climate change and what can we do? Week 2 - What are the causes of climate change? - How does human impact contribute to climate change? - What are the natural factors that add to global warming? - What is the global footprint of different countries - global emissions. Week 3 - The impact of climate change on our planet? - What are some of the consquences or effects of global warming? - Research skills - finding information from reliable sources (library, provided information and videos, adult supervised internet etc.) - How are animals and plants affected by climate change? Week 4 - Climate change and us - How are humans affected by global warming? - How are children being impacted by climate change? - COP27 and what it means - Is the impact of climate change equal to all populations? Are some regions going to be and are affected more than others? Week 5 - How we can contribute to a better planet - What impact can we make? - Who or what has the most influence for change for the better? - What jobs are 'green'. - Notable people who are vocal about climate change. Week 6 - Climate change and my local area - Project - How can I make my home / school / community more green. - Research (with the guidance and permission of a responsible grown-up) good examples of homes / schools / communities who are a great example of climate change. - Ideal green communities.
