Class Experience

US Grade 3 - 6
Our environment is really important! We need to learn about it and ways to protect it!

This fun class is run over four weeks, learners will have fun and learn about different aspects of the environment and conservation.

Each week will consist of a video lesson which the children can watch to learn about the particular aspect of the environment we will be working on, they will then use the knowledge they have gained to play an online escape room which I created for them. They will use the OutSchool classroom to discuss the clues and support each other in solving the game. The children will need to work as a team to work through the game and prove they have learnt the information with this fun lesson.

While this class does not meet live, the children will still be expected to participate by playing the online game with the other students, commenting on discussions in the classroom and making decisions as a class.

The games are created by myself, learners will be given a secure url that temporarily hosts the game so it is only available to members of our class. No additional log ins will be required, once the class ends the url will expire.

Week 1: This week we will learn about climate change, the children will learn what it is, how the climate has changed, what we can do about climate change and why it is so important. After the lesson the learners will be invited to take part in a fun escape room game, where they can work as part of a team to solve puzzles using the information they have learnt in the lesson. The learners will be expected to complete the puzzles and support each other with clues they discover. The information they have gained about climate change will be needed to solve the clues and support each other in their escape.

Week 2: This week we will learn about the endangered and extinct animals, the children will learn the types of animals which have become endangered, what endangered and extinct actually means, how we can help protect animals and what is happening in the world right now. After the lesson the learners again be will be invited to take part in a fun escape room game as in the previous week, learners will be expected to play the game together, supporting each other and solving the clues as a class throughout the week.

Week 3: This week we will learn about recycling, the children will learn what recycling means, details and facts about how we can recycle, the journey recycled materials take and important facts. As with previous weeks, after the lesson the learners again be will be invited to take part in a fun escape room game to use their new knowledge to solve puzzles as part of a team.
