Horror is not just about blood and guts. Clean horror involves a clear story plot. In this class, the history of the horror genre will be explained. We will then orally hear the story of the Monkey's Paw by W.W. Jacobs (which is in the public domain) and discuss what elements contribute to it being a clean horror story. *This story is a bit scary, so if your child is unusually sensitive or upset, this would not be the class for them. :) The students can then make a brief outline of their potential story and share that if they wish. No inappropriate content of guns, blood, or guts should be contained in their story. and it will not be written in class. They may, however, send the finished story to me, and I will provide feedback. This class is of the most benefit if the student participates in our discussion. Class Rules: As per Outschool policies, the camera must be turned on at the beginning of class so I may verify the learner. We mute so we do not talk over each other, and we are polite and respectful to everyone.
Learning Goals
The student will learn the elements contained in the creative writing genre of clean horror.
