- Students will learn to critically think and pose questions during and after reading a text that help it become more engrossing, educational, and enriching
- Students will learn how to structure their ideas verbally and communicate when posed with various ideas and perspectives
- Students will learn to analyze nonfiction text and use it to inform a fictional texts
- Students will have the option to develop 1 academic essay, and through it, how to organize thoughts, create a thesis, and develop voice within writing

Parental Guidance
This book deals with adult and sensitive themes
- Scenes blend horror with fairly vivid sexual imagery to illustrate corruption
- Violence towards men, women, and children including vivid scenes of death
- Frightening and horrific descriptions (it is, after all, a horror book)
- Mental illness and psychological illustrations
- Religious themes are found throughout (and will be discussed in an academic sense)
- Feminism and masculinity will also be analyzed academically
