What was the justification for Darcy's snobbishness and detachment in PRIDE AND PREJUDICE? In WAR AND PEACE, were the characters changed by the invading army and the atrocities of war? Was the pastoral land in RETURN OF THE NATIVE an evil character as misfortune fell upon the lives of neighbors? In AS I LAY DYING, in what way was perspective used? These are questions we will answer in Classic Literature as students define their theories about every book and answer why, where, and when. Students will speak their observations and chapter-by-chapter issues in every class and will pepper in their justification for their theories with attention to fostering opinion. We will then work to define the right way to put their theories in writing for every book. We will read the following: PRIDE AND PREJUDICE RETURN OF THE NATIVE WAR AND PEACE AS I LAY DYING

Teacher expertise and credentials
I am a novelist and a writer of short fiction. I produce content for websites, including blogs and feature articles, and I have spent two decades in the web industry. In addition to my M.F.A. in Creative Writing from the New School University, I received a B.A. from the University of Rochester where I graduated with high honors and was the recipient of the Susan Williams Memorial Prize for Most Outstanding Work in the Department of English. I received the AWP Writers' Conferences & Centers Scholarship for an Emerging Fiction Writer and the Pearl Sperling Evans Prize for Most Promise in Fiction.
I am passionate about teaching English and Creative Writing. I believe all students possess gifts and the ability to learn when given the opportunity. I have worked with dyslexic children and children with autism, and I have taught reading and writing to kids with little previous experience. In addition to teaching English, I have over fifteen years experience teaching leadership to teenagers and adults and was the recipient of a Silver Stag Award for Excellence.
As a mom of two exuberant little ones I understand the importance of engaging and challenging students in a safe and supportive atmosphere. I believe in the power and freedom which homeschooling lends.
