Join in a weekly gathering on video chat where we will learn the basics of the U.S. government and the role of the citizen within it. Kids will have the chance to quiz themselves on their knowledge, play learning games, and talk about what it means to be a citizen in our country. Each class includes images, videos, and explanations, and time for group questions and discussion. I will provide online games to play after class time. Classes 2 through 4 will include a review Kahoot! quiz together. Week 4 will finish with discussion and sharing of examples of good citizens. Session 1: What is a nation, how do we define government, and what is the history of the United States formation? Session 2: Branches of Government: the 3 branches of our government and what they do Session 3: State & Local Government: how do state and local governments fit in our Constitutional system? Session 4: Citizenship & Participation: what is your role--a chance to do some exploration together
Learning Goals
Students will gain introductory understanding of the U.S. Constitution, the 3 branches of national government and the connection with state and local government, and what it means to be a citizen in this country.
