US Grade 3 - 6
In this 8-session class, learners will explore the intricate connections within nature's circle of life. Learners will find out how autotrophs (plants) use photosynthesis to create their own food, serving as the foundation of the food chain. Plants fuel the food chain by becoming food for herbivores and omnivores, which in turn become food for carnivores. We will discuss the levels of the food chain and how death sustains life. We'll talk about the clean-up crew (scavengers and decomposers) that eats carrion (dead animals) and detritus (organic waste). We'll take a closer look at the fascinating role of fungi, with a special focus on mushrooms, in breaking down organic matter.
Learning Goals
Understand how nature is interconnected.
Understand that plants are autotrophs and that they use photosynthesis to feed themselves. Understand what ingredients photosynthesis uses and how it works.
