Join me for a cinematic journey through the history of cinema from the era of the silent movie until now and then recreate scenes using The Sims 4 to share with the class!

Class experience

10 lessons//10 Weeks
 Week 1
Lesson 1
Introduction to Cinema
We will go over what the class structure will be like and I will provide a short lecture introduction to the beginnings of cinema. We will go over any questions about what is expected from our Sims 4 set construction and I will demonstrate this in the class. Our film to watch this week will be from the silent era (1880s – 1920s) and the film will be Buster Keaton's -Safety First (1920) Silent film.
 Week 2
Lesson 2
The Talkies!
We will watch each other's set designs from the Silent Era and move on into the Talkies, where we’ll discuss its development. This will also cover 1927, the Jazz Singer.
 Week 3
Lesson 3
The Golden Age of Hollywood
We will begin by sharing our set designs from the previous week. Then we’ll move into the rise of Hollywood, and the Big Studio Productions of the 1920's to the 1940's. Focusing primarily on the invention of color in cinema, but also some notorious film studios.
 Week 4
Lesson 4
Walt Disney
We will begin by sharing our set designs from the week before. We will delve into the history of Walt Disney.
 Week 5
Lesson 5
The Rise of Horror in Films
We will begin with some share time, then take a look at the history and rise of horror movies.
 Week 6
Lesson 6
Television of the 1950's
We will begin sharing our set designs from the Big Studio Era and I will present on the advent of Television in the 1950's. Think Lucille Ball and more!
 Week 7
Lesson 7
The New Hollywood
We will share our set designs from the advent of TV and I will present on the New Hollywood of the 1970's. We are talking about Jaws, Star Wars and the new style of big movie production.
 Week 8
Lesson 8
MTV and short movies and music videos
We will share our set designs from the New Hollywood era of the 1970's and then I will talk about MTV, music videos and short movies.
 Week 9
Lesson 9
Bollywood and International Film
We will share our set designs from the MTV era of the 1980's. While the focus of this class is on American Film History, there is a ton of really interesting film internationally. There's the NFB from Canada, Bollywood from India and other amazing film all over the world!
 Week 10
Lesson 10
Wrapping it up into the present
We will share our set designs from the international film community and I will discuss films now and what we can take from set design today. We can work on our projects in class today and screen share our development.

Homework Offered
You will watch the assigned movie and follow up with creating a set in Sims 4 to show for the next class.
1 - 2 hours per week outside of class
Assessments Offered
I will evaluate the input of your learner if requested. The rubic will be based on Participation, Discussion and Construction of the assigned set. There is an expectation that learners will be able to talk about the sets they have constructed and how they relate to the movie assigned. Please request this specifically as it is only offered, not required.
Grades Offered
