The teacher will lead students on a journey through cinematic history, specifically focusing on Disney films. The teacher will show clips as examples and allow for discussion between students. While some outside viewing is possible for discussions, it is not required. This is an art history class that is a great academic elective for students who are interested in film, Disney, animation, or entertainment. The class is divided into 3 sections and uses Disney films to explore American cinematic history from 1937 to present. The first class will focus on the origins of Disney and how they built their film and storytelling empire. Then, students and teachers will discuss how Disney films reflect what was happening in the world at the time. Class two will focus on Disney/Pixar's change in animation style and how that change reflects cinematic history as a whole. The final class will focus on the Top-10 Highest Grossing Disney Films, which are mostly films from the 2000s.
