Merry Christmas 2022! Christmas songs sound great on guitar and are fun to play. I've created this class for students who wish to learn their favorite Christmas songs -- and who want to play them the "correct" way. All songs will be taught with proper fingering and playing technique, and I will provide students with guitar instruction as we learn songs. I'll provide the sheet music and the instructional tools for students to 10 of the best Christmas songs: Jingle Bells Frosty the Snowman Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer Deck the Halls Here Comes Santa Claus Jingle Bell Rock Up on the Housetop Jolly Old St. Nick We Wish You a Merry Christmas Santa Claus is Coming to Town This class will be tailored to student interest and skill level, all skill levels are welcome. I'll be providing a range of resources as some students will prefer playing melodies, whereas others will more enjoy playing chords and singing. Class Specifics: Week One : GETTING STARTED - We will ensure an understanding of Guitar Tablature which is the primary notation system used by guitarists around the world. We will learn proper fingering technique and then begin learning our first Christmas melody: "Jingle Bells" Week Two: MORE MELODIES - We will continue to reinforce proper fingering technique and reading skills by learning more Christmas classics: "Deck the Halls" and "We Wish You a Merry Christmas" Week Three: CHORDS AND STRUMMING - We will being learning important chord guitars we can use to play these same Christmas songs. Chord diagrams and proper fingering technique will be covered. Students will also receive two new melodies to practice: "Up on the Housetop" and "Here Comes Santa Claus" Week Four: LEAD SHEETS - Students will be introduced to "lead sheets" which are lyric sheets that provide song structure, chord progressions and strumming patters. Students who wish to sing (optional) will be able to use these to perform songs. Students will also receive two new melodies to practice: "Jingle Bell Rock" and "Jolly Old St. Nicholas" Week Five: REVIEW AND FINAL SONGS - In our final class we will review all of the guitar concepts we've used to play melodies, chords and even sing (optional) our Christmas songs. In this class I will provide all of the sheet music for the last three songs "Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer", "Frosty the Snowman" and "Santa Claus is Coming to Town" *I will be available to answer questions throughout the course and provide any additional help outside of class for student or parent.

Teacher expertise and credentials
Hi, I’m Nicholas Carothers and I’m a full-time private music teacher. I operate lesson studios in South Central Pennsylvania, where I teach multiple instruments including guitar, bass, drums and ukulele. I enjoy working with all ages and teach children as young as four.
I’m a lifelong musician myself, having begun my own music studies as a young child. Over the years I have studied music theory and technique on multiple instruments with many talented musicians. I gained extensive performance experience in venues such as night clubs, casinos, vineyards, country clubs, and music festivals. I’ve also performed guitar-based sing-alongs for groups of children at preschools, learning centers, and homeschool conventions.
In addition, I’ve developed a guitar curriculum has been circulated world-wide, and I’ve trained other teachers in the most effective scope and sequence for teaching guitar, really the “key” to ensuring minimal frustration and maximum joy in playing the instrument. I’ve also scored and published high quality songbooks for guitar, ukulele, flute, recorder, trumpet, saxophone, clarinet, violin, and cello.
I’m also convinced that for children and teens, learning an instrument really goes beyond the music itself. In my own students, I’ve seen that music makes them smarter, more confident, more social, and more creative. I believe that music can be very important to a growing person and can have a major effect in a person’s life.
