Teacher expertise and credentials
Hi!
My name is Jenna McCasland and I am so excited to teach your child in my virtual classroom! I live in Madison, Wisconsin with my husband and our two children, ages 3 and 1 year. I have a Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and I am certified to teach grades PreK - 6.
I've been teaching in the classroom for 8 years in a variety of settings including the Madison public school district, a project-based preschool, and with an online ESL company. It is because of this varied experience (hands-on in the classroom and as a successful online educator) that I am uniquely qualified to teach your child. Here's a closer look at my experience:
- 3 years as a Kindergarten classroom teacher. (2013-2015, 2017-2018)
- 2 years as a Third Grade classroom teacher. (2015-2017)
- 1 year as a 4-year-old Kindergarten classroom teacher. (2019-2020)
- 3 years teaching ESL online, 5-star rating,1512 classes, 423 students. (2018-2021)
In addition, I have participated as a member of my school's leadership team, partnered with the National Equity Project and Universal Design for Learning. I also worked as a project assistant for a state-wide children's book club, in partnership with the Cooperative Children's Book Center, to select high-quality children's literature and provide opportunities for students to meet authors.
I am an energetic, encouraging and patient educator. It is important to me that my students feel welcomed, appreciated and celebrated in my classroom. I believe all children are capable and as a teacher, I strive to guide and support children to be the best learners they can be.
In my classes, I plan to engage children in exciting hands-on learning activities, interactive games/songs and connect with a variety of children's literature. I use a blend of traditional classroom techniques, paired with engaging online teaching strategies to create a fun and supportive learning environment. It is my hope that students are able to develop a sense of community in my class, even if we have just a short time together!
My class offerings will include Preschool and Kindergarten circle times, early mathematical concepts, beginning reader strategies, rhyming and syllables, alphabet and phonics work, as well as early writing skills.
I look forward to meeting your learner in my classroom!
- Mrs. M
