Let's learn about how people celebrate Christmas in Russia. Students will learn customs & traditions about Russia. Students will create a special Christmas craft for Russia which is a babushka (grandmother) puppet.

Class experience

US Grade 2 - 5
Students will learn country facts about Russia, as well as learn about Christmas traditions in Russia.
I've lived in and travelled to many countries around the world. I want to share all of the things I've experienced in my life about Christmas traditions with your learners. I've created all of the materials for my class myself, with original artwork.
Homework Offered
There will be crafts that children can finish after class and then they can show the class their projects during the next class.
Assessments Offered
The learners will receive a participation certificate at the end of the class.
Grades Offered
The printables will be provided before the class. Students will need crayons/markers/colored pencils, scissors, glue/paste, and string or yarn for this class.
Christmas traditions in general can be a sensitive topic due to religion and different cultures. We will be looking at Christmas traditions from a secular point of view, making sure to look at the traditions from multiple different perspectives around the world. Also, I know that sometimes Christmas discussions can be tricky due to talking about presents they want to receive, or have received, but I will keep this conversation focused on traditions in order to prevent this dilemma.
Students will receive a PDF packet each class with all of the information for class. There are readings and activities for Russia, as well as crafts. Also, students are given a PDF with a mini-book for Russia that they can create as well.

The class packet is based on my first-hand accounts, and many primary and secondary sources especially depending on the country. Some of the main sources are:
