Class Experience

In this one-time class we will work together to choose our own adventure in the ocean or desert. Our google slides will show us sentences to read and photos of our adventure as we make choices on where to go next. Students will practice reading simple sentences as I support them by reinforcing short vowel sounds, the role of "silent e" and other phonics rules as necessary. Once they read their sentences, it's their job to choose what happens next in the adventure. Every student will have a turn to read and make choices. Then we will use our whiteboards or paper to work together to sound out and write 1 new page for the adventure together using shared writing.

This class will be the best fit for early readers who can sound out 3 and 4 letter words. Some example sentences that students will be reading are, “Pick up the note,” and “Go up to the sand.” If your child would benefit from some practice reading simple sentences in a fun way and learning the first steps of writing those sentences, this class is for them!

Students may repeat this class as the choices take us on a different adventure each time!

Learning Goals

Students will practice reading 3-letter CVC words and 4-letter words, as well as some sight words. The short vowel sounds and the role of "silent e" will also be reviewed. Students will also practice segmenting all the sounds in a word (phonemic awareness) and writing those sounds during shared writing.
