Intermediate Level
In this class, students will read Peter Rabbet and Friends Series in Mandarin Chinese with a native speaker. They will improve their Chinese skills(speaking, listening, reading and writing) via reading with a native speak in this immersion reading club. Students always learn language by reading a lot. Each class, students will read a chapter along in Chinese with me. Then we'll highlight the new vocabularies, both in Pinyin and simplified Chinese characters. Students are encouraged to retell the story independently and share their thoughts about the story. They need to communicate with each other in Mandarin Chinese all the time and will be asked to apply new vocabularies into sentences. As an inclusive class, each learner could follow their own path, they will be always engaged to challenge themselves. Finally, they will be asked to predict the next chapter and make up their own story. This class will be taught 100% in Mandarin Chinese and the story will use simplified Chinese. Students are required to communicate in Chinese and recognize 100-150 high-frequency Chinese characters. Teacher expertise and credentials
I had been living in Beijing, one of the most historic city in China for more than 30 years, and grew up in Hutong and kept all the customs generation by generation. I taught mandarin in Oklahoma, US for 2 years and voluntarily provided Chinese culture sharing club in the local public elementary school for 3 years. I LOVE Chinese culture and this unique language. My dream is to support more and more students to know Chinese culture and Mandarin Chinese. I'm passionate to work with children on Chinese cultural learning and Mandarin teaching, because it's not only full of fun for me, but also meaningful for me.
