In this one-time class students we will read Chicka Chicka 123 by Bill Martin Jr., Michael Sampson, and Lois Ehlert. During the story, we will focus on color recognition, number identification, counting, and directional action through discussion and reinforcing questions. As students provide verbal responses to these questions, we will practice short sentence development, pronunciation, and grammar. Students will be encouraged to share their thoughts on the story and, while they do not need to know how to read, students will have opportunities to mirror and/or read aloud to the class.
In reading and discussing Chicka Chika 123, students will develop their ability to identify numbers, colors, shapes, and directional movement. Through focused questions and conversation, students will also practice their language development development using short full sentence responses that incorporate colors, shapes, size, quantity. Finally, these verbal responses will allow us to hone student pronunciation, and grammar.Hello, my name is Dr. Vega and I am excited to meet you! Over the past twenty years I have dedicated my professional life to creating enriched in-class learning opportunities and institutional vehicles by which students are able to realize their educational aspirations.
Across my educational career, I have enjoyed the opportunity to teach classes in grades K-12 and across multiple subjects. As a university professor, I currently teach and mentor undergraduate (BA, BS) and graduate (MA, MS, EdD, PhD) level students. Finally, as a researcher and practitioner I have created enrichment programs which continue to help first generation college students acquire the skills and resources necessary to excel within college and university environments.
At Outschool, I extend this focus on enrichment and academic excellence through the belief that exciting, engaging, structured learning environments lead to positive outcomes! When I am not in the classroom, I enjoy spending time with my wife and son.
