Description
Class Experience
Students will increase their skill in chess and, through playing, improve their strategic thinking. They will learn to both win and lose politely and with dignity.
I have been teaching students how to play chess and managing a middle school chess club for over a decades, with a special focus on exceptional learners (gifted learners, students on the autism spectrum, LQBTQ+ inclusion groups).

Students will receive an automatically generated ranking from the chess club software. I will provide verbal feedback for students on their progress and strategies.
50 minutes per week in class, and an estimated 0 - 1 hours per week outside of class.
Students have the option of playing chess using Chess.com. If you want your child to do this, you must create an account for them and register it in my private chess club. All chat options outside of the Outschool Zoom call are blocked in my club and I provide instructions for how to block all communication features site-wide in the classroom welcome message.
