Semester Physical Science-Matter and Chemistry With Review Notes(Meets 10 Weeks)
What's included
10 live meetings
7 hrs 30 mins in-class hoursMastery Evaluation
1 hour per week. 🩸🩸🩸1. I will be sharing a "Review Note sheet" on the topic discussed in class so that the student may review all the concepts that were learned and discussed during class. 2. An experiment or an activity will be shared in classroom which will require common materials used at home. The student may choose to do this anytime at home during the week. Optional Performance Task Adopt an Element After learning about atoms and gaining an understanding of how the 'Periodic Table of elements' is organized, students may choose an element that they would like to research. Students may share details and interesting facts about their element.Grading
Formative: Frequent questions and prompts to engage in discussion and determine the level of understanding throughout the class. This engages the learners as well as reinforce the learning as well.Class Experience
US Grade 6 - 9
🩸This course will cover the curriculum on "Matter and Chemistry". Students will master the topics and concepts. My strong focus is on solidifying the understanding of the science concepts in an engaging way. All the concepts will be discussed with their application and real world examples (including activities and models) so that the student is able to understand the concepts, retain the learning and continue to build on the concepts in High school. 🩸The learning will drive student inquiry throughout this course. Students will have multiple opportunities to interact, ask questions and share the learning with me and the class. 🩸🩸🩸1. I will be sharing a "Review Note sheet" on the topic discussed in class so that the student may review all the concepts that were learned and discussed during class. 2. An experiment or an activity will be shared in classroom which will require common materials used at home. The student may choose to do this anytime at home during the week. First 2 minutes- Welcoming of students. Learners are also welcome to ask questions and clarify doubts from the previous class. This will help to learn, understand and continue to build on the learning of the concepts discussed in class. Next 40 minutes the teacher will share a Google Slides presentation to learn and explore the concepts with real world examples. After a few slides each time there will be short video clips from credible educational sources that will help learners to reinforce the concepts learned. Students are welcome to discuss and ask questions to make the class more interactive. Learners may use graphics/flowchart/concept maps for noting these concepts. Last 3 minutes students will share their learning with the class, review the topic, discuss and may ask relevant and essential questions as well. Alternatively they will be working on a simulation. I do not share the class recording because I play videos in class that require permission and subscription. I am able to play them in class but not able to share them online. If you are unable to attend a meeting, please refer to the Review Notes shared with you in the classroom on the topic discussed for the week. Thanks.:) The topics covered during the 10 week course: 🩸🩸🩸 MATTER: Week 1: States of Matter and Phase Change Week 2: Properties of matter, Measurement of Mass, Volume and Density, Accuracy and Precision Week 3: Physical and Chemical Changes, Mixtures and their separation techniques ATOMS and PERIODIC TABLE: Week 4: Atomic Models, Atomic Structure, Atomic Number and Atomic Mass Week 5: Isotopes, The Periodic Table, Valence electrons Week 6: Ions, Periodic Table trends and families CHEMICAL REACTIONS: Week 7: Acids and Bases, Chemical Reactions, Law of Conservation of Mass Week 8: Lewis Dot Diagram, Chemical Bonding- Ionic and Covalent Bonds Week 9: Balancing Chemical Equations Week 10: Endothermic and Exothermic Reactions, Combustion
Learning Goals
Students will learn:
Matter is anything that takes up space. It's the material that all the stuff in the Universe is made of. All physical matter is composed of tiny particles called atoms. These atoms behave differently depending on the temperature and pressure of their environment.
Atoms are the building blocks of matter. Atoms are made of smaller particles called protons, electrons, and neutrons, with charges.
Elements are made of one type of atom with unique properties.
The Periodic table is a list of all the chemical elements that occur in the universe. It categorizes elements according to the properties of their atoms such as their atomic symbol and atomic number. It's the numbers of protons, neutrons, and electrons in an element's atoms that determine its properties.

Teacher expertise and credentials
Non-US Teaching Certificate in Science
I am an enthusiastic teacher who loves to teach, learn and explore science and technology.
I like to begin my class by asking students what they know about a particular topic, what they would like to learn and finally at the end share what interesting things they learned in this class.
I possess a positive teaching style who understands and believes that all students can be successful learners. I work towards creating a classroom learning environment that is stimulating, engaging, encouraging and adaptive to the varied needs of my students. I create a safe, respectful and fair environment for all my students.
I am a highly qualified teacher and have studied Bachelor and Master in Science. I am also a certified/licensed teacher with a Bachelor of Education. I am detail oriented with strong organizational skills.
I have been teaching technology, science, mathematics and STEM to elementary, middle and high school students for the last 34 years.
I love to explore science and the natural world and enjoy finding solutions to problems and to build and design prototypes to test my hypothesis.
I look forward to meeting your child in class.:)
