What's included
Homework
2-4 hours per week. Students will be expected to complete practice problems for each topic- the best way to master the topics presented in this course is practice!Assessment
Student submission of work each week will enable me to see progress. Additionally, an assessment at the end of the course can be given if desired.Grading
I can provide a grade for this course if required.Class Experience

***Who Should Take This Course?*** This course is designed for students who are planning to take AP, IB, Honors, Dual Enrollment, Advanced Chemistry, or General Chemistry next academic year. It is designed to give you an advantage in your higher-level chemistry class by covering review material and giving you a strong foundation before you get started with more challenging material. This class is fast-paced and covers a lot of content each week, so will require some work outside of class- which will be worth it when you're stressing less during the school year! ***What Will This Course Cover?*** Week 1- Metric Prefixes, Scientific Notation, Dimensional Analysis, and Significant Figures Week 2- Atomic Structure and the Periodic Table Week 3- Chemical Bonding Week 4- Naming Compounds Week 5- Writing and Balancing Chemical Equations Week 6- Predicting Products of Chemical Reactions Week 7- Mole Calculations Week 8- Stoichiometry ***How Is This Course Set Up?*** At the start of each week, I will make a post in the classroom with that week's content. Weekly content will consist of: - a notes handout sheet to take notes on during that week's videos - practice problems for that week's topic - links to videos (that I've created) going through that week's concepts - relevant additional practice including online lab simulations and quizlets to practice memorization of polyatomic ions There are over 40 course videos totaling approximately 20 hours of video instruction. Handouts and class notes total over 100 pages of printable pdf files. **Interaction** Students have the option to submit their practice problems each week for feedback. Students can get the answer key for the weekly practice problems by messaging me a picture of their completed sheets- this helps with accountability to make sure that they're getting the most out of the course AND lets me see what areas they may need additional help in. I will provide feedback for all submitted work. **Why Should I Take A Chemistry Class in the Summer?** The short answer- because it will make your life easier in the fall! You'll enter your chemistry class more confident and ready to tackle more challenging material- AND have a big advantage over your classmates who didn't do summer preparation.
Learning Goals
Students will improve their understanding of skills that are critical for success in future chemistry classes including AP Chemistry, Honors Chemistry, Advanced Chemistry, dual-enrollment chemistry courses, and college-level chemistry classes

Teacher expertise and credentials
Pennsylvania Teaching Certificate in Science
I am a certified chemistry teacher (grades 7-12) with over two decades of teaching experience. I have 7 years of experience in the high school classroom and have been teaching on Outschool since December 2018. I have also done private tutoring at the middle school, high school, and college level, taught freshman college chemistry recitations and labs, and worked in various science outreach settings including museums, middle school after school science programs, and science summer camps. From these experiences, I have worked with a lot of different types of learners at various stages of interest, ability, and motivation- from preschoolers wide-eyed at everything in science to high school students simply taking the class as a requirement to college freshmen chemistry majors passionate about the course with never-ending questions. I can tailor my teaching style to fit the learner, and I do what I can to make it approachable by anyone.
