Chemistry in Minecraft (Level 2): Build a Science Lab & Make Chemical Reactions!
Using the Chemistry features in Minecraft, we'll experiment with making more complex chemical reaction experiments, like elephant toothpaste! We'll also learn real-life lab safety rules and build a science lab with NPCs (Non-Player Characters) that explain safety rules to Minecraft players.

How Outschool Works
Don't see a time that works for you?
Not an official Minecraft product. Not approved or associated with Mojang.
In this course, we'll use the Chemistry features included in Minecraft Education & Minecraft Bedrock Edition (Windows, iPad, Nintendo Switch, PS4 versions), to experiment with more advanced chemical reaction, like elephant toothpaste! We'll also learn about real-life lab safety rules and build a science education center with NPCs (Non-Player Characters) that explain how to work in a lab safely. In addition, we'll learn how to make Bleach, Super Glue, Benzene, Underwater Torches and Sparklers!...
This class is taught in English.
The following Learning Goals will be covered in the course: Session 1: - Recap of Minecraft Chemistry Tools - Atom Scavenger Hunt using the Material Reducer - How to make Bleach and understanding what Bleach does in real life - Make Banners in Minecraft and use the bleach in Minecraft - Creating a Science Lab Building - we'll look at examples of real science labs, and learners will begin creating their own Minecraft science lab to house their chemistry experiments. Session 2: - Understanding the difference between molecules and mixtures - Make some Benzene and Super Glue - How to use the Brewing Stand to make potions - How scientists distill and "brew" chemical compounds in real life - How to make an Awkward Potion (the base for other potions) - How to make an Antidote (cure for Poison) and learning how an antidote works in real life - We'll continue building a science education lab and learn how to add NPCs (Non-Player Characters) that explain lab safety Session 3: - Learn about Solutes and Solvents - Continue exploring the Brewing Stand and making Potions - How to make an Elixir (cure for Weakness) - How to make Eye Drops (cure for Blindness) and learn how eye drops work in real life - How to make a Tonic (cure for Nausea) and learn how antacids work - How to make Potion of Weakness and Suspicious Stew - Learn about the different glassware used in a chemistry lab and learn how to make some hardened glass in Minecraft Session 4: - Show-and-tell of student Science Lab Builds - How to make Elephant Toothpaste and understanding the chemical reactions involved in real life elephant toothpaste - How to make Underwater Torches - How to make Sparklers of various colors and learning how different colored sparklers and fireworks are made in real life
We're dedicated to introducing young students to the amazing world of quantum physics, technological innovation and design! We've been offering STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art & Math) classes and creating educational materials for students of all ages for over 15 years. We're excited to share this course content with more students through Outschool.
Students must have access to Minecraft Bedrock Edition (Windows, iPad, Nintendo Switch, PS4 versions) or Minecraft Education Edition, for use during the class time. (Please note: A license of Minecraft Bedrock Edition or Minecraft Education Edition is not included with this course). In addition, students will need to be able to access Zoom and Minecraft simultaneously, either by utilizing a second device, or by having both Zoom and Minecraft windows visible on the same screen. Students should already know the basics of using Minecraft, including the basics of how to use a crafting table and how to access their inventory.
50 minutes per week in class, and maybe some time outside of class.
To participate in this course, students must have access to Minecraft Bedrock Edition (Windows, iPad, Nintendo Switch, PS4 versions) or Minecraft Education Edition, for use during the class time. Links to download Minecraft for Windows 10 and Minecraft Education Edition are listed under third party tools. Note: Education Edition can only be purchased through a school, so if your learner does not have Minecraft Education Education through their school, we recommend getting Minecraft for Windows 10, or Minecraft for iPad, Nintendo Switch or PS4. Please note: A license of Minecraft Bedrock Edition or Minecraft Education Edition is not included with this course.
