1 hour per week. 6-page packet is assigned to students to give students more opportunities to engage with the concepts covered in this class. The answer key is provided to students separately. It is the responsibility of parents and students to ensure that students attempt the packet independently before referring to the answer key.Certificate of Completion
includedClass Experience
US Grade 7 - 9
*Topics covered: chemical reactions, conservation of Mass, and states of Matter *Students will watch a recording where I review these concepts, then complete a 6-page packet to ensure understanding of these topics. *I aim to push students to think critically and engage deeply with the material, but I also ensure they have the necessary scaffolds to succeed. I believe every student is capable of mastering complex topics when given the right tools and guidance. *While teaching online presents unique challenges in providing immediate support, I address this by offering clear instructions and resources upfront. *Due to this class being self-paced, interaction will be minimal but I am always here to answer any questions!
Learning Goals
Students will be able to analyze a chemical reaction and accurately determine whether it represents a physical or chemical change, providing reasoning to support their conclusions.
Students will be able to evaluate whether a chemical reaction complies with the law of conservation of mass by analyzing data and providing evidence-based explanations to support their conclusions.

Chemical Reactions & the Law of Conservation of Matter
In this lesson, students will dive into the exciting world of chemical reactions, exploring the fundamental principles that define how and why substances interact. We'll start by distinguishing between physical and chemical changes, helping students understand how to recognize each and what makes them unique. This foundation sets the stage for understanding chemical reactions!

Teacher expertise and credentials
I have extensive experience working with students on topics related to science, including chemical reactions and the conservation of mass. I hold a Bachelor's degree in Science and a Master's in Secondary Teaching Education, and I have taught middle school science as well as high school AP Chemistry as a long-term substitute for a semester. Additionally, I worked as an instructional aide in special education for seven years, where I provided science support to students in various classes. Though I am currently staying home to support my family due to my husband's active-duty military career, my years of working with middle and high school students, coupled with my educational background, have equipped me to teach this subject effectively.
