Class Experience

US Grade Preschool - 1
๐Ÿ’œYour child will explore the wonderful world of speaking through conversations with our pals Violet and Blueford! Because this is a one-on-one class, your child will really get the attention they need to build the confidence to talk more freely and fluently.

If your child already has that confidence, and maybe even is a "chatter-box," this class can be for them as well.

In this class, your child will explore the use of their own voice. The goal is to have Violet and Blueford help your child discover how fun it can be to talk and to conversate with others. She will guide your child through the speaking and conversating process by starting simple. She will ask them simple yes or no and one word answer questions, and will slowly progress from there. This process will be on-going, and will not be "mastered" in the course of one session.

Here are a few examples of conversations with Violet:
(Note- I will always model these for your child before)

Violet-Hi "Rose!"
Rose-Hi!
Violet- I am happy you are here! I am learning my colors. Can you help me?
Rose- "Yes."

Violet-What color is my hair?
Rose-Pink.

Violet-What color is my tongue?
Rose-Green.

Depending on how well your child does, we will soon transition into developing those same answers into complete sentences.
(Note- I will always model these with your child before)
 For example:
Violet-Hi "Rose!"
Rose-Hi Violet!
Violet- I am happy you are here! I am learning my colors. Can you help me?
Rose- "Yes I can help."

Violet-What color is my hair?
Rose-Your hair is pink.

Violet-What color is my tongue?
Rose-Your tongue is green.

Though I am the teacher, the progression of the classes will greatly depend on your child. I will never push them to talk beyond what they are comfortable doing. This does not mean that I won't encourage them in fun and engaging ways. I will for sure focus on getting to know them, their interests and their needs in order to better guide my instruction and next steps. Because this is the case, the level of engagement on your child's part will greatly depend on them.

๐Ÿ’œViolet, Blueford and I are ready to help!
Learning Goals
Through chatting with Violet and Blueford, children will gain confidence in talking. They will realize that Violet as well tends to be shy at first. Your child will build their conversating confidence while Violet and Blue are doing the same. Many times, children learn more when they help others.

Some of our learning goals will include:
1. Speaking in complete sentences
2. Asking and answering questions
3. Answering questions in complete sentences
4. Vocabulary practice
5. Confidence building
6. Empathy for others
7. Helping others

Since this class is one-on-one, I can really focus on the individual needs of each child. This is especially helpful for children who are in a speech program, or who are in need of it. Violet, Blue and I can help your child meet their IEP speech goals.

Teacher expertise and credentials
I have used puppets in my teaching well before teaching public school 18 years ago. Puppets have often helped children feel more at ease, ready to engage, more comfortable talking and so much more. They allow for children to "help" the puppet talk since I do make it seem as the puppet too is shy and has trouble conversating as well. This means that they are on a common ground, and they can help each other. Depending on each child, Violet will begin opening up more, talking more, asking more questions etc. This in turn often has the same affect on children and they begin to do the same.
