This class will read "Charlie and the Great Glass Elevator" and analyze different reading strategies throughout. A portion of each class will also review vocabulary words found in the text. Class 1: Students will read chapters 1-5. We will analyze the characters and determine the setting. Class 2: Students will read chapters 6-10. We will learn about author's tone and practice visualizing. Class 3: Students will read chapters 11-15. We will compare and contrast this book with "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory". Class 4: Students will read chapters 16-20. We will discuss the theme of the book and other common themes. Students will share their critiques of the book. *Students are expected to read the assigned chapters ahead of time.* This class will be a balance of teacher instruction, independent work time, and sharing with classmates. We will use review games to practice the vocabulary words. The students in this class should be independent readers (at least a level J reading level) and comfortable writing independently.
Learning Goals
Students will learn how to apply highly effective reading strategies while reading. In addition, they will build their vocabulary by reviewing higher reading level words. They will also practice articulating their opinions and questions.

I have taught a variety of learners ranging in ages from 6 to 66, but I am most comfortable teaching primary grade levels (kindergarten to fifth grade).
