Lesson Plan: Percy Jackson and the Olympians: The Lightning Thief Grade Level: 4th-6th Grade Duration: 8 Weeks (one class weekly) Please see syllabus for each week's topics! In this class, students will have an opportunity to learn Greek Mythology, as well as critical reading comprehension skills. There will be opportunities to identify character traits and setting. There will be deeper skills addressed, such as conflict/resolution and inferencing with internal vs. external conflicts. I will be using Google slides as a visual for students to be able to have something to look at while I am teaching and explaining.

Intro to Greek Mythology
To better grasp the characters in the novel, it is important to have an age appropriate background of the characters.
Lesson 2:
Character Mapping Part 1
Read Chapters 1-3. Identify and describe the Main Characters
Lesson 3:
Character Mapping Part 2
Read Chapters 4-6. Add to Main Characters descriptions
Lesson 4:
The Hero's Journey
Introduce the concept of the hero's journey. Read Chapters 6-10
