US Grade 1 - 2
📚 Join me in discovering a brand new literary adventure each month, engaging young minds in the wonders of reading beyond the classroom! 📚 As an educator with 7 years of experience teaching grades 1-2, my love for reading extends far beyond the confines of the classroom. In this interactive class, I aim to instill a deeper appreciation for literature while fostering critical thinking skills. Throughout our 3-week journey with each book, meeting live once a week, we'll delve into thought-provoking discussions that go beyond mere likes and dislikes. From exploring story elements, to the central message, to the characters, and onto so much more! Our book selections are age appropriate, designed to appeal to readers, including those new to chapter books. Prior to our first class, students should aim to have read approximately one-third of the selected book. While reading ahead is welcome, I encourage students to avoid spoilers and stay within the designated reading schedule. It's the student's responsibility to acquire and engage with the chosen text before our discussions begin. These books are readily available in various formats, ensuring accessibility for all. So let's embark on this literary odyssey together, where every page turn brings us closer to a deeper understanding and appreciation of the written word. Book List: March - Zoey and Sassafras Dragons & Marshmallows April - Henry, Like Always May - Magic Tree House #1: Dinosaurs Before Dark by Mary Pope Osborne June - Keena Ford & the Second Grade Mix-up by Melissa Thomson July - The Littles by John Peterson

Class Policies:
1. Classes will begin at the scheduled time, even if all learners are not in the classroom (unless there appears to be a technical issue). I will not contact absent learners during class time so that my attention is on the learners who are present.
2. I will always finish class as close to the scheduled amount of time as possible. Depending on low enrollment numbers or extended discussion for very active speakers, the class may run a few minutes short or long.
3. If your learner has missed a class, I will offer a transfer to another section (if applicable) ONLY if I receive a message within 24 hours of the original class start time. I will then transfer the learner to the new section within 24 hours of the new class start time.
4. My group classes have a minimum class enrollment of 2 learners. If the minimum number is not reached, I will transfer or withdraw the learner, depending on what the parent would like to do.
5. My private tutoring learners are allowed 1 cancellation with a refund, as long as prior notice is given 24 hours before the class time. After the first cancelation and refund are used, the class will no longer be refunded for last minute absences. *For long-term learners, this policy will restart every quarter (Jan-Mar, Apr-June, July-Sep, Oct-Dec)*
6. Per Outschool policy, If no learners are in the classroom, I will wait 10 minutes before ending the class and exiting the meeting.
Classroom Expectations
Engagement: Learners can speak freely but must follow class rules (e.g., raising hands). Multiple disruptions may result in temporary muting.
Introduction: Learners will introduce themselves briefly at the beginning of each class.
Focus: All learners should remain focused; younger ones may have a toy, and older learners should keep electronic devices aside.
Siblings: Siblings are welcome to watch but must be individually enrolled to participate.
Behavior: Learners receive three warnings for inappropriate behavior. If it persists, they'll briefly go to the waiting room. Severe issues will prompt contact with parents and Outschool notification.
