a handout will be provided before class
We will discuss brain health and mental health and explain how brain health and mental health interact and influence each other - from an evidence-based perspective as well as when and how to ask for help if necessary. This is education, not counseling or therapy. If your student or a friend or family member has a mental health or neurodevelopmental disorder, this class can inform them on what is possible and how to help themselves, others or understand how professionals can help better, but it does not provide individual counseling or therapy. Please always use and follow the advice of your learner's healthcare provider! This class does not address or treat any illness or disorder. This class is adapted (with permission) from class 10 of Dr. Amen's course "BrainThrive by 25" and is based on my 40-years experience in healthcare and extensive studies of philosophy, medicine and psychology. The original course by Dr. Amen has been taught in 100's of schools and been proven to reduce the likelihood of participants starting to use drugs/alcohol/marijuana and improve their own physical, mental, social, and spiritual health. Dr. Amen also authored excellent books on brain and mental health ("Change Your Brain, Change Your Life") and many others on how to get better grades, and other topics.
I teach classes about health, nutrition, brain health, mental health, and basic medical science; subjects I am passionate about. I also love technology... As a retired physician, a certified brain and mental health professional (Dr. Daniel Amen...
