Description

Class Experience

Our goal for this class is to effectively debate a topic using research, statistics, and sources we bring to class.

I was a top consistent award winner on an elite speech and debate team for 4 years and have served as a judge for speech and debate tournaments. I also served as a reporter and political news analyst at my college television news station. I have a bachelor’s degree in Communications with dual concentrations in TV Broadcasting and Theater. *Mail-In voting can be a sensitive topic for many, so parents should gauge their child's ability to handle the seriousness and sensitivity surrounding this topic.
The homework for this class must be done BEFORE the actual class. You will need to research the OPPOSING VIEW on the topic and come to class with your research, statistics, and sources to provide validity and credibility to your position. There will be no homework after class.

You will need to come to class armed with your research, statistics, and sources to back up your position on the debate.
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
30 minutes per week in class, and maybe some time outside of class.
This upper level public speaking class will require the student to have some basic understanding of taking a position on a topic, researching it, and presenting their point of view in an informal setting. It will also require a basic level of comfort speaking in a small group since they will need to present the opposing position in this class. The student will need to have both camera and audio ON during the class for effective debate. *Mail-In voting can be a sensitive topic for many, so parents should gauge their child's ability to handle the seriousness and sensitivity surrounding this topic.
