Teacher Tom is a top educator on Outschool! See Outschool's EPIC Spotlight on Teacher Tom: https://teach.outschool.com/spotlights/ In this ongoing class, learners will submit "themes" when they sign up. Each theme will be put on a slip of paper and placed into the mystery bowl. At the beginning of the class, the teacher will draw a slip of paper to see what the theme will be. The theme will be a surprise each week, even for the teacher! Is this the week your theme is randomly selected? Come find out! No appropriate theme is off-limits. We will not be building sets in this class, we will be using our own collection of bricks to build from scratch. Can you come up with a theme unique enough to leave your teacher scratching his head and wondering what to build? Keep in mind this is no ordinary teacher, but instead a professional finish carpenter and brick building extraordinaire with a creative mind that you've never seen the likes of until now! Learns will complete the challenge alongside their teacher. At the end of the class they will rate themselves and their teacher using the following: 1 point: Does what you built, fit the theme that was randomly selected at the beginning of class? Let's see if you and your teacher can get a 5/5 this week! 5 minutes: Introductions and a warm welcome to this week's learners 30 minutes: We select a random theme and begin our creations. Our cameras are pointed at our work. Sometimes we chat as we go. Sometimes we are quiet. Whatever suits the learners. 10 minutes: We show off our final product, the learners rate themselves and their teacher, and share any thoughts and positive feedback we have for each other. All of the learners will rate themselves and the teacher but will not rate each other. They will be allowed to share positive feedback with each other. It is okay if you don't finish your project during class, so long as we can see where you were going with it. While this is a fun and social class, it also teaches learners how to think on their feet, expect the unexpected, practice creativity, stay calm under pressure, never give up, and so much more! And this is a safe-space to practice these important life skills. This is an ongoing class so you can join us at any time! The theme will be a surprise at the beginning of class, therefore there is not any pre-set schedule for this class. Your learner is welcome to submit one theme when they sign up for the class. I encourage you to get creative! They may have a chance to submit more themes as we go. See you soon!
