Love, acceptance, and kindness can be encouraged in very young children. When we start young, we can begin to combat bias and prejudice. Now is the perfect time to help children build a firm foundation in being kind and accepting. It's ok to notice the differences in people around us. In fact those differences can be celebrated! In an age appropriate, positive way, I will use the stories of superheroes to help children learn to celebrate what makes them unique. This class will help your children understand that our differences are what make us special! In class we will: read an excerpt from the book Be The Difference by Jeyneen Sanders. read World of Reading Super Hero Adventures: Tricky Trouble!: by Alexandra West listen to Talking Gets Us There by Amanda Gorman In class we will discuss: What makes us special. Why it's great to be unique. How to be kind when we notice someone else who is different. Please see my teacher profile for class policies. The class minimum of 4 learners will be adhered to. Please share this class with your friends. If we do not meet the minimum one week before the class start date, the class may be canceled to give you time to make alternative plans. Thank you!

Students will learn why it's ok to notice differences, how to be kind when we notice them, and how we can celebrate them.

Hello my name is Angela and I have been teaching for 2 decades working with children of all ages. I have worked in academic settings, but I really enjoy when I can teach children through play and physical activity. In my classroom we use the arts as a tool for expression. I have a BA in drama from UC Irvine and I love incorporating the arts into learning. I have 2 young children of my own, and they give me plenty of opportunity to hone my teaching skills. They're my best little buddies.
I use fun, relatable, age appropriate discussion and activities to foster a sense of self confidence and self awareness. I have created an Independent Child program where I prepared young learners to begin school or daycare without their caregivers for the first time. The goal of that class was to build a firm foundation for children to grow in self confidence, self awareness, and social interaction. In my classroom we'll talk, laugh, engage, and have fun while your child gets public speaking practice and begins to discover themselves.
I hope that your learner will join be for one (or more!) of my carefully planned programs. I am happy to answer any questions that you may have regarding my programs, teaching style, or virtual classroom setting. I try my best to answer most messages and schedule requests within 48 hours.
I also teach in person with children from pre-school through 8th grade. Therefore my class offerins are somewhat limited. Thank you for your patience and understanding as I try to add classes that can fit into my schedule.. I am in PST. Please send a schedule request if I have a class that you are interested in that hasn't been scheduled. Thanks!

MRS. ANGELA’S CLASS POLICIES:
LEARNER PARTICIPATION-
I want learners to grow in their socio-emotional development. Activities used during classes will enhance these skills. In order to build self-confidence, I will encourage children to speak and answer questions. However I will not require a child to speak beyond introductions in the beginning of class. My hope is that more reserved children will speak more as their comfort level increases.
On the other hand, I know some children are really excited to speak! In the beginning of each class I will remind them of our class rules. Children are expected to wait until they are called on to speak. I will give them gentle reminders of this during class if needed.
CHILDREN WITH SPECIFIC LEARNING NEEDS-
If your child has any specific learning needs or necessary accommodations please contact me beforehand so that I can adjust when possible within reason. My goal is to make my classes as accessible as possible for all learners.
PARENT PARTICIPATION-
For classes with children under 5, I ask that an adult or older helper stays near by just in case a child needs additional help. However the helper will not need to be on camera or actively participate in class. In all classes, I request that parents do not speak for their child. Again it is important for a child to find their own voice.
ZOOM-
I suggest that you check into Zoom a few minutes before class is scheduled to begin. This will give you time to make any adjustments if necessary. Again, I want to make sure that the full class has my attention. I also will not be checking class conversations or emails during class to give learners my full attention.
For the safety of all learners, each child is required to check-in with the video on at the beginning of each class. Then if they are more comfortable, they can turn their video off. This is required by Outschool. If a learner refuses to turn on their camera to check in, they will be removed from the class and the class will not refunded.
MUTING-
I aim to create a space where children can interact with each other and me as naturally as possible. However if there is background noise that cannot be controlled or if learners have a hard time waiting their turn to answer, I may have to use the mute function so that students can clearly hear me. I will let children know that they are being muted if this becomes necessary. Parents are welcome to mute their child if needed as well. As you know, any additional noise can make it hard to hear others on Zoom. So for the most part, learners will be muted in bigger classes. But I will consistently check in with them to give them opportunities to talk and share.
SIBLINGS-
All children who want to participate in class must be enrolled to receive individualized attention and any possible personalized materials. However I understand that sometimes a sibling may want to listen in to the class. I don't mind at all if siblings listen to and sit in on a class as long as they are not distracting. If you want each sibling to get the same attention as one would get being enrolled in class please register each sibling individually.
REFUNDS AND TRANSFERS-
Please see Outschool for the full refund policy for more detailed information.
I follow Outschool's Limited Refund Policy which states - "Full refund within 24 hours of purchase or up to a week in advance of the class."
Please take care when scheduling a class. Please set a class reminder for yourself so that you don't accidentally miss class. I usually send a class reminder myself (in addition to the ones sent by Outschool before class. I will not be able to provide refunds for classes missed once the class had started.
Per the Limited refund policy, refunds will not be given once a class is less than one week away. If you realize that you cannot make a class within that week period, please notify me ASAP so that I can transfer you to another session with availability. This also gives me an opportunity to open a spot for another student. Transfer requests must be received at least 24 hours before the class start time. Transfer requests sent less than 24 hours before the class start time will not be granted.
I cannot refund or transfer anyone who contacts me less than 24 hours before the class start time. I know that life with children can be unpredictable, and sometimes things come up that are out of your control. I will do my best to accommodate families who may need an adjustment BEFORE the class begins when possible. However if your child is removed from the class by you during the non-refundable period I cannot transfer you. Therefore it is important to first contact me directly to see what your options are.
CLASS RECORDINGS-
If you miss a class, you can return to the classroom to view the class recording after the class ends. The class recording is usually accessible within a few hours after the class ends.
CLASS CANCELLATIONS:
Each of my classes has a minimum to give your child the best opportunity for social interaction. I try to give the class as much time as possible to reach the minimum. Please be aware that the class may be cancelled as little as 48 hours before the class start time if I do not have at least 4 learners enrolled.
CLASS RUN TIME:
The time stated for each class is a goal. However this time frame depends on class participation. Sometimes a class may go over by a few minutes (of course you are always welcome to leave the class if you need to). Sometimes a class may end a couple minutes early if it is a really small class.
If a session that you are enrolled in has not met the minimum number of students, I will send you a message letting you know if the class will be cancelled and you will receive a full refund.
