Class Experience

US Grade Preschool - 10
Beginner - Advanced Level
Welcome to Outschool ESL assessment for ESL students. This is a 1:1 meeting where each student's English is assessed based on their reading, listening, speaking, and writing skills. The session will begin with some warm-up questions for ice-breaking, such as talking about each learner's aspirations, to casual talk about the weather, favorite color, sports played, etc.

Learners will then ease into some vocabulary to determine how they do with recognizing words. During this time, learners will also be asked to create sentences to any random words appointed by the teacher. Along side this, learners will also engage in reading a few short passages from one or two pieces of literature provided on hand. Each student is required to read aloud, answer any questions about the material, and share any reflections they have of the reading.

Last but not least, the writing section will be assessed on each learner's writing ability in English. Things considered are proper usage of verbs and tenses, spelling, punctuation, flow of writing, etc. This last part will vary for each learner as it will depend on the child's writing skill and pace. Hope to see some of you young learners soon!

***Please note: Learners who do not show up within the first 5 minutes of the class will receive a message. If they are still absent after the 10-minute grace period, the session will be ended.***

Profile
Teacher expertise and credentials
Hello everyone,

Thank you for visiting my profile. My name is Michelle, and I'm so excited to join the Outschool community! Although I am originally from South Korea, I was born and raised in the US, Switzerland, and Dubai (UAE). I began teaching in 2008 when I volunteered at international schools and colleges in Mongolia and Indonesia, teaching introductory courses in marketing, management, and ESL English. The experience was incredible, and the students were absolutely amazing.

Since 2017, I have taught at international schools in South Korea, working with students aged four to sixteen. My teaching subjects include English, Science, Social Studies, and Geography. My two core teaching philosophies are:

1) Valuing each student’s learning style: I prioritize patience and understanding of each individual's culture and learning progress, making each student feel valued, and fostering a supportive community in our classroom.

2) Making learning a fun journey: I love what I do, and I am passionate about finding the best ways to support each child's learning needs. Building rapport with my students helps create a joyful and engaging learning experience.

Thank you, and I look forward to meeting some of you young learners soon! 😍
