Cat Asanas: Slow Flow Yoga for Everybody
Class experience
Children will learn a short asana flow (physical practice) with engaging, accessible movement and a short Savasana meditation at the end. Most of the asanas are related to cats, and the children will get to channel the personality and quirks of a cat in every shape. This class includes cat images all the way through. This means children see me in a small window and see a slide with a cute cat showing a rough sketch of the shape that we are in at that moment. This helps children who learn best...
Students will learn a yoga sequence involving asana (physical body shapes) and meditation. This is not merely an exercise class. All asanas can be adapted for all bodies and abilities.
I have completed a 200-hour teacher training with Contemporary Yoga Teacher Training in Auckland, Aotearoa New Zealand. Learn more at https://yogateachertraining.nz/. I am also trained in Kids Yoga from Yoga Foster (New York, USA) and Yogawood (New Jersey, USA).
Required: Stretchy and/or loose clothing, a soft surface to practice on (mat, carpet, grass, towel, etc.) Recommended: Yoga or gym mat, water bottle, blanket or pillow Optional: Your own cat!
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
This is not an exercise class. However children will be gently moving their bodies, so an open space in which to stretch their arms and legs and to lie down is needed. Falling over in a light balance shape like Tree is possible. Adult supervision, appropriate clothing (loose or stretchy), and a soft surface (yoga mat, grass, or carpet) is necessary to avoid injury. Please advise me before class if your child has any physical disabilities that may impact their ability to do stretches and balance shapes. I am happy to accomodate for all bodies. Footwear: The safest and easiest way to practice yoga is barefoot. Children may wear sneakers/running shoes if more comfortable that way. Socks are fine during the sitting and lying down portions of the class but can cause slipping if worn without shoes during the standing and stretching portions of the class.
