** This is a FLEX course. There are not any live meetings. ** Lessons for this 4-week course are presented through Nearpod. There is nothing to download. Each week (Tuesdays at 6:00 am EST) I will post in the Outschool classroom the link and code to access the Nearpod lesson. To stay on track the learner will complete 1 lesson per week. Allow approximately 30 minutes each week for this course. The lessons contain pre-recorded information, activities, and videos all contained within the Nearpod lesson. Also, within the Nearpod lesson will be Interaction with other learners through video or audio answers/activities. Throughout the course the learner will be asked to keep a journal. Each week there will be an assignment for the learner to complete by writing in their journal. For example: Week 1 – In your journal list 5 of your personality traits. The journal entries will not be shared within the class unless the learner wishes to share. I want this journal to be used by the learner as something that they can go back to year after year and adjust as to how they have changed. This will be the only assignment outside of the Nearpod lesson. Below is a week-by-week outline of the Objectives we will cover. Week 1 Objectives Describe how knowing yourself affects your career planning. Contrast your needs and wants. Journal Entry Week 2 Objectives Summarize how your values might shape career plans. Describe personality traits and interests. Journal Entry Week 3 Objectives Review the career clusters. Explore career resources. Journal Entry Week 4 Objectives Describe the employment outlook for career(s) of interest. Identify ways to prepare for the future you want. Journal Entry

Parental Guidance
This course will use Nearpod outside of the Outschool platform. You will not have to download or sign up for anything. A code or login information will be provided to you once you have enrolled.
This course does not include any personality tests. On the topic of personality traits, the learner will list in their journal some of their traits. Discussion will center around how these traits could translate to skills for certain careers and also emphasize how an individual’s personality may change over time.

Hi Everyone. Welcome to Outschool. My name is Karen and I’m excited to be able to bring my love of teaching online.
I have a Bachelor of Arts in Education from Fairmont State University in West Virginia. For 10 years I educated students in Family and Consumer Sciences. I love teaching FACS courses because they help students to develop the essential life skills and knowledge to lead their best lives. It also offers students education to career pathways in:

In addition to Family and Consumer Science I am certified to teach Safety and Drivers Education, PreK – 5th grade and TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages). A love of mine is traveling, but not just traveling, having lived in 10 different states, I have immersed myself into the culture of the areas and discovered how each state has a uniqueness all their own. I hope to also share my passion for travel and what makes each state one of a kind.
My teaching style is what I call “structured fun”. When teaching my students about how to educate Preschool children we discuss about how they learn through play. I don’t believe that should just apply to Pre-Schoolers. My classes include a lot of interaction through discussions, games, projects, and fun quizzes.
