Class Experience
This is a highly creative class where children will get swept away in a "zone" of creativity. In the four design projects, children will love learning about colors, fonts, shapes, filters, effects, grids, transparency, design, layout, and so much more! You will see the empowerment the children gain when they create really amazing pieces of art! Your children will continue to use the program long after the session is over to explore and create new designs. Children do not require any graphic design knowledge to take this class. Each class will give a demonstration of skills and a design will be created. The homework assignment for each class will be to apply these skills and create a design based on the lesson. The classroom is a great place to ask questions, and more importantly, to share the designs that you create. Feedback will be given on all designs submitted. A highlight of the class is seeing the designs of the other students. The children discover new fonts, photos, animations, and designs that they never thought of before. The students are expected to give feedback in the classroom on the designs that are submitted by other students and comment of what they notice regarding fonts, photos, balance, alignment, layout, and colors. Video feedback is encouraged by students using a free program like Loom to hear verbal feedback, which conveys the emotion of seeing the design. The students are encouraged to share what can be improved in the design and challenge the other students to duplicate a design to figure out the puzzle of how it was created. Children will learn the following in this class: CLASS 1 – POSTCARDS Postcard templates, backgrounds, photos, colors, rotating elements, positions, elements PROJECT: Create postcards from your favorite destinations with beautiful photos and elements. CLASS 2 – STORYBOARD Storyboard templates, grids, text alignment, photos, custom colors, solid background colors PROJECT: Create a storyboard about the top activities to do on your vacation with photos and text. CLASS 3 – NEWSLETTER COVER Newsletter templates, lines, curves, bullets, alignment, photos, shapes, frames, layout, line spacing PROJECT: Create a newsletter cover spotlighting your vacation with photos and text on the front page. CLASS 4 – VACATION SLIDESHOW Photo frames, video, audio, speech bubbles, elements, stickers, emojis, fonts, text effects PROJECT: Create a slideshow of your vacation.

Hi!
My name is Risa and I LOVE arts & crafts, singing, painting, and graphic design. I am a lifelong learner and I'm interested in history, science, and leadership.
I ALWAYS have an arts & crafts project going on. I am currently creating wearable art by painting beautiful pictures on shirts. I love to knit, paint, do pottery, make jewelry, and many more creative projects.
I have been a website designer and a graphic artist for the past 20 years. I've designed dozens of websites and I've designed hundreds - probably almost a thousand - graphics. I am the owner of several websites, including an e-commerce website, a jewelry information website, and a quote website.
I love working with kids. My greatest pleasure is seeing the joy that kids get when they are in their creative zone- where time flies and their creativity is unleashed - and they are excited and inspired.
I have had children in my classes who pay rapt attention for over an hour, who usually cannot sit still much longer than 20 minutes.
My classes are fun, interesting, and full of possibilities. About 2/3 of the class is spent teaching or demonstrating skills, and the rest of the time is spent on practice, where kids design a graphic on their own and ask questions.
In my science and history classes, the children will apply what is taught by creating storyboards with photos and facts of what we learned.
Using Canva to create graphic designs is a skill that your children will use for the rest of their lives. There is always a reason to create a graphic - whether it is for a report, an invitation, a poster, a brochure, social media, or creating a graphic for special occasions.
Your kids will LOVE the classes that I teach!
