This one-time class practices spelling and identifying parts of speech on a third or fourth grade level using poetry suitable for children.

The teacher will present a PowerPoint with various poems written for children by authors like Shel Siverstein, Mary O'Neill, and Rudyard Kipling, among others, as well as classic poetry suitable for children by authors like Robert Frost and Ernest Lawrence Thayer to name a few. There will be words missing from the poetry with clues to help students identify them. The student is asked to correctly spell the word so it can be inserted in the proper place. Once all the words are found we will create our own written work based on that poem. We will finally use syllables to create our own haiku poems illustrating our use of imagery.
Learning Goals
Students will learn rhyme schemes in poems,various forms of literary devices like metaphors, similies, irony, and humor, and imagery as used by poets. Students will also learn how to create a haiku poem by counting syllables.

I teach classes in many subjects. I am proficient in reading, grammar, and math. I also can teach science, history, social studies, and some Spanish.
I have a college degree in teaching and a permanent certificate. I have taught all subjects to fourth graders including everything involved in science fair participation. I then spent years working as a substitute teacher in all grades from TK through high school. I worked some long-term assignments in the high school teaching language arts, history, business education, job preparation, keyboarding, journalism, and credit recovery.
I believe education is most effective when it is remembered. I believe in creating projects with content and utilizing interactive journals. I have created games to help learn basic concepts in grammar and math. These will be listed as soon as possible! Education can be fun!!
