Campfire Stories is an opportunity for learners to enjoy a little fright and hear various kinds of spooky stories. We will read classic scary tales, folklore from around the world, and urban legends that will send shivers up the spine! I have lived around the world and have collected creepy tales from my international experiences that I would love to share with your storyteller. I will read the short stories aloud, making predictions before, during, and after. We will discuss ways in which we can share a scary story that will captivate the listener and add to the frightful elements of the story. We will discuss calculated pauses, sound effects, and ways authors may build suspension in the plot. Also, students will be given an optional prompt to write their own campfire stories that they can share in the classroom as a typed or hand-written document. Please note, these should be age appropriate stories that they create, so for 10+ ages. These stories lend themselves to being retold. They can start making a collection of their own stories, both borrowed and completely unique to share at their next campout!

I’m a certified teacher in Elementary Education with my Master’s in Education Leadership, with experience in both in the US and internationally. My family and I had the privilege of living overseas for 15 years, teaching in international schools around the globe. I've lived in New Zealand, Kazakhstan, Thailand, and Bosnia and Herzegovina! I value teaching small groups, students from diverse backgrounds, instilling curiosity in my students, and encouraging students to take ownership of their learning. Over the course of my 18 years in the classroom, I have gained valuable insight into best practices and ways to connect with learners. I strive for each of my learners to know that I care deeply about them and their education. Connection is the base for all authentic learning.
On Outschool, I am teaching an array of different classes: math camps, problem solving, traveling, book clubs, nature journaling, tutoring, choose-your-own-adventure, reading comprehension courses, and novel studies to list a few. I believe in smaller class sizes to ensure quality of education and engagement.
Outside of teaching, I am an avid long-distance trail runner, reader, and traveler! I'm equally passionate about all three. I love anything outdoors. Travel has taught me valuable life-long lessons that I love sharing with others. I have a teacher husband (also on Outschool!), and two young children that I adore.
