Camp Worry: Anxiety Reduction Strategies for School & Home (8-10yrs)
Class experience
This camp is ideal for learners who have an interest in learning what anxiety is, what can make it worse and what can make it better. Strategies are included that can be used at home and at school. This is an educational, fact-based course, and not a counseling or therapy group. We'll use discussion and polls to encourage, but never require, learner participation. No prior experience is needed, only an interest in understanding worry/anxiety and how to eliminate it. Class One: What...
1. Students will learn how to define worry/anxiety in terms of feelings and physiological reaction. 2. Students will learn at least three behaviors that increase worry/anxiety. 3. Student will learn at least 5 art calming strategies to reduce or eliminate anxiety 4. Student will learn at least 5 mindfulness strategies to reduce or eliminate worry 5. Student will learn at least 5 music strategies to reduce or eliminate anxiety

Homework Offered
Assessments Offered
Informal assessment will take place throughout the lesson by using chat box polls. Due to the nature of this class, great care will be taken to support students in engaging to the level they feel comfortable with. No one will be put on the spot or "forced" to answer.Grades Offered
1 file available upon enrollmentPaper/Pen and notebook to write down strategies that student wants to try later. There is a class handout provided that students can download and use to take notes or just follow along. There will also sometimes be additional handouts posted that students can print out to follow along with strategies taught at the end of the class. The handouts will be shown on "Share Screen" in class if you're unable to print them out.
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
This is a fact-based course. I don't anticipate sensitive topics being discussed. In the event a student would bring up a personal anxiety related issue, I will recognize the feeling/comment (i.e. "That can be really difficult") and respond, "That's important information to share with a trusted adult in a private/one-on-one setting. For now, let's talk about...". This has been a successful strategy in previous fact-based courses to address any sensitive topics that may come up. I don't believe parental guidance is required. However, parents know best if their child will more comfortable with them by their side. The fact-based content of this course doesn't require a parent, but the nature/personality of the specific learner may.
