Class Experience

Young children are naturally curious, and research shows that the best time to introduce mathematics to young children is at this time while their brain is rapidly developing. Mathematics in early childhood helps children develop critical thinking and reasoning skills early on and it’s the key to the foundation for success in their formal schooling years. In this class we will spend one day learning and review math concepts with fun games and songs.

Day 1 Review of numbers in all form ( word and standard) We will talk about place value and odd and even numbers.
Day 2 We will work on addition and subtraction using fact families and number bonds.
Day 3 We will review and work on identifing and counting money.
Day 4 Telling Time and Calendar

Learning Goals

Teacher expertise and credentials
Hello, I’m Ms. Melinda and I can hardly wait to meet you! For the last 30 years I have put my heart and soul into being a teacher and I would absolutely love to have you in my class. Keep an eye open for my courses in these subjects: Early Phonics, Book Clubs, Circle Time Learning, Math with the calendar, reading comprehension, learning with math games and writing club. I received my Bachelor of Education degree in 1987 from the University of Memphis, with a major Early Childhood Education. Later I received my Masters degree in curriculum and instruction. I have taught literally thousands of K-3 students. I teach in a public school in my hometown in Tennessee. I have raised five wonderful children of my own. They are teachers, preachers and lawyers. We are waiting on the youngest to finish med school. I also have six grandkids with one more one the way. I specialize in early childhood math and reading but also teach ESL classes. I have trained fellow teachers on the best practices of teaching writing to young learners. I am high energy and animated and this holds young learners attention. I believe every child is valuable, intelligent, creative, and special. My goal is for each one of my students to experience success and feel encouraged to continue his or her unique learning journey. My favorite activities are reading, traveling and spending time with my family. I hope to see you soon in my classroom where all are welcome and learning is fun.
