Art Camp With Crafts: Great Artists & Their Ideas

Beginner Level
In this three-day camp, young students will listen to the stories and explore famous paintings by Arcimboldo, sculptures by Picasso, and architecture by Gaudi. The kids will enjoy discovering unconventional ideas in creations by these three great masters: • Arcimboldo's portraits made of unusual items • Picasso's sculptures made of junk that he collected • Gaudi's architecture inspired by nature and its shapes In addition to the stories, students will play games and participate in...
Students will get familiarized with famous artworks and architecture. They will learn a few facts about each presented artist. Students will be encouraged to use their imagination while discussing art and while working on crafts.
Supply List for Camp Day 1: Arcimboldo's Unusual Portraits Materials for Craft: • Cardboard about 10 X 10 inches • Pencil • 2 - 4 short pine branches • 1 big pinecone • A few leaves or some blades of grass • 2 acorn cupules (acorn “cups”) • Short twigs • Any other light weighted natural materials • Playdough • Glue • Scotch tape Day 2: Picasso's Sculptures Made of Junk Materials for Craft: ANY assembly of recyclable objects. Here are some ideas. Choose 1 OR a few of MAIN items: • boxes that could be easily cut (like boxes from cereal, cookies, tea, soap, cosmetics, toothpaste, etc.) • paper towel rolls (OR toilet paper rolls) • plastic containers (yogurt cups, cottage containers, fruit cups, pint size plastic berry baskets, etc.) • plastic bottles of any size A few ADDITIONAL items (any of them will do): • Magazine or newspaper pages • Wrapping paper • Construction paper • Old greeting cards • Stickers • Jar lids or plastic bottle caps • Any other small items that could be glued or attached with scotch tape (examples: beads, buttons, pompoms, paper clips, bread bag clips, etc.) BASIC items: • Glue • Small scissors • Scotch tape • Markers or crayons • Play dough or modeling clay Day 3: Discovering Nature in Gaudi’s Buildings • Small carton box, like tea box or box from cosmetics (approximately 5-6 inches high) • Construction paper • Aluminum foil or parchment paper (about 10 X 10 inches) • Paper towel tube or 2 toilet paper tubes • Scraps of colorful paper (wrapping paper or any other type) • Lunch paper bag (optional) • Markers • Scissors • Scotch tape • Glue
For the craft portion of the class, parental guidance is required for younger students (ages 4-5) for the use of scissors and other materials. Parental guidance is recommended for older students (ages 6-8).
