In this multi-day beginner animation course, students will learn art vocabulary around 2-D animation using Blender. I teach through: tell, show, do, feedback (a method I learned in my time with Starbucks, a long time ago) I find that students learn in a variety of ways (hearing, seeing and doing). This practice allows every student to learn in their own unique way. I will teach the steps to creating an fun 2-D animation from start to finish. Students will be provided with Blender shortcut tools in a document before the start of the lesson. After students are completed with their initial 2-D animation we will discuss character creation using Blender. From there students will create their own short 2-D animation using a character of their choice. Feedback is essential to artists ( and learners!), I love doing gallery walks where students can share their artwork and get praise and critiques from their peers (what they did well, what they can improve on etc), before the end of each lesson students will have an opportunity to share their drawings and animations with their peers. Day 1: Get to know each other, Blender downloads as needed, Blender shortcut list and expectations, student time on Blender before instruction (this allows students to "play" with tools and become comfortable before beginning), start instruction in Blender. Day 2: Work on our beginner Blender projects (Making a stickman walk). Day 3: Student character creation and jot thought. Students begin their unique animations. Day 4: Student animation continues. Day 5: Student animation time as needed. Students share their animation with their peers. Round Robin time to provide critiques (positive and improve upon). ***Note: Blender doesn't work on Chromebooks/tablets/smartphones, please have a windows/mac device.
Learning Goals
Students will take the initial class practice of the stickman walking and make their own original animations.
